Step 1
Wash the toor dal, moong dal and masoor dal and pour into a pressure cooker. Add water till the dal gets completely immersed in water and pressure cook on med flame for 4 whistles. After cooling down mash the dal.
Step 2
In a hot pan add oil and ghee. After it gets heated up, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds followed by chopped green chillies and finely chopped onions. After the onions turn translucent add finely chopped ginger and garlic, fry for 2-3 mins. Now add curry leaves and asafoetida powder and mix properly.
Step 3
Later, add tomatoes and all the spice powders- turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, salt and red chilly powder. After the tomatoes turn mushy, add the cooked dal and mix properly. Pour water and adjust consistency.
Step 4
Now add kasuri methi and garam masala powder and coriander leaves. Cook on medium flame until the dal comes to a boil. Later add some more coriander leaves and let it cook on low flame for 2 mins. Serve hot with roti or jeera rice.
