Step 1
Wash & soak green moong overnight in 2 cups of water. Next day cook it in cooker by giving the required number of whistles.
Step 2
Also, wash & soak rice in water for half an hour & then cook the rice separately by giving the required number of whistles.
Step 3
Next, take a big kadai, put oil in it & saute finely cut onions till onion becomes translucent, then add ginger-garlic paste & saute for 2 seconds. Add turmeric & chilly powder & saute again.
Step 4
Next, add finely cut tomatoes & saute it for 2 to 3 minutes, add salt & saute again till tomatoes are smashed & blended well with onion mixture . Now, add 1 cup of water & boil for 3 to 4 minutes with closed lid.
Step 5
Add the cooked green moong & cook till all the water has evaporated & looks like a thick gravy. Switch off the gas.
Step 6
Finally, add the cooked rice after draining out the water from the rice completely. Mix together green moong, rice & tomato-onion gravy & keep it covered for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 7
Green moong kichadi is ready. Serve it hot with pappad, curd salad or raita.
