Step 1
Soak moong dal overnight in water. Next day drain out the water completely & grind moong dal along with ginger & garlic into smooth paste without any water, then put it in a bowl add Besan, 1/2 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp of red chilly powder & mix altogether. This mixture should be dry.
Step 2
Then make the dry mixture into small balls & deep fry them till golden brown & keep it aside to drain out the oil.
Step 3
Then take a kadai, put oil in it & saute cut onions till it is soft & slightly brown in colour.
Step 4
Then add 1/2 tsp red chilly powder, daniya powder, garam masala & saute for 2 minutes, add cut tomatoes & saute for 5 minutes into soft pulp, add salt & saute for 2 more minutes till oil separates from the tomato pulp.
Step 5
Then add 2 cups of water & boil with closed lid till it becomes a semi thick gravy.
Step 6
Finally add the fried moong dal balls into the gravy & boil for 5 more minutes.
Step 7
Moong dal kofta is ready. Serve it hot with phulka.
Step 8
You can make koftas in the same way with vegetables like cabbage, carrot etc.. without grinding the vegetables but cut it very fine.
