mathan erissery/yellow pumpkin curry
This again is a kerala dish to be had with rice. Mathan erissery goes well with a side dish of potato masala or bitter gourd or ivy gourd. This dish is actually prepared as a side dish during Onam/Vishu in the form of a thick gravy but I prefer to make it as a main dish in a semi-liquid form. Do try this dish of mine.

Step 1
Soak dal in water for half an hour & boil it in cooker alongwith pumpkin, a pinch of turmeric & red chilly powder. U can boil the pumpkin separately as it might get smashed with dal. I boil pumpkin alongwith dal as I like the pumpkin to be smashed a bit.
Step 2
Grind 3 tbsp out of the 4 tbsp of the grated coconut alongwith Jeera. After dal & pumpkin is cooked well add the ground coconut paste, turmeric powder, red chilly powder & salt & boil altogether. The curry should not be very thin so add water accordingly.
Step 3
Spurt mustard seeds in oil & add remaing 1 tbsp of grated coconut & fry till brown in colour & pour it into the ready dal/pumpkin curry, add sprig of curry leaves. Mathan erissery or yellow pumpkin curry is ready to be served with rice.
