Step 1
Wash 1 cup of toor dal. Pressure cook it with 3 cups of water, a pinch of asafoetida and 3/4th tsp of turmeric powder for about 4-5 whistles.
Step 2
Add 1 tbsp of ghee in a pan. Once the pan is hot add 1 tsp of mustard seeds, 1 tsp of jeera, 8-10 curry leaves and 2-3 slit green chillies. Saute well.
Step 3
Then add 1 finely chopped onion. Saute the mixture well. Add finely chopped ginger and garlic. Cook it for 2-3 minutes. Then add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp of red chilly powder. Cook the masala. Add the cooked dal to the mixture and stir it well. Make sure there are no lumps. Add 1/2 tsp of garam masala and salt as per paste. Add 2 tbsp of finely chopped coriander leaves. In the end add 1 cup of finely chopped spinach leaves. Mix the dal well and cook it for a minute. Then switch off the flame.
