Step 1
Roast moong dal in low flame till it turns aromatic. Make sure the color doesn't change during the process.
Step 2
Wash it once the dal cools down. Pressure cook the washed dal with a pinch of turmeric, required amount of salt and some curry leaves for 1 whistle.
Step 3
Now it's time to prepare coconut mixture. Add some cumin seeds, turmeric, 2 green chillies, 2 shallots, 2 garlic pods and a half cup of grated coconut. Grind it well by adding water. Make sure the mixture is thick and not watery.
Step 4
Add some water in the cooked dal and heat it for 2 minutes. Water amount depends on the consistency of the dal. Once the dal starts to boil, add the prepared coconut mixture. Boil for 3-4 minutes and switch off the flame.
Step 5
Last step is the tempering step. Heat some ghee, coconut oil in a pan. Once it becomes hot, add little bit of mustard seeds. Once mustard seeds crackles, add 2 tbps of grated coconut and 2 shallots. Fry till it becomes golden brown. Then add some curry leaves and 2 dried red chillies. Add the tempering mixture to the dal.
