Kichadi

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Short-grain rice
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 cup Toor Dal (Soaked for about 15 minutes)
  • 1 unit Onions (Finely chopped)
  • 1 unit Tomatoes (Finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 3.5 units Garlic cloves
  • 1 pinch Turmeric
  • 1 to taste Salt

Instructions

  1. 1In a pressure cooker, combine the short-grain rice, water, soaked toor dal, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, cumin seeds, garlic cloves, and a pinch of turmeric. Stir to mix all ingredients thoroughly.
  2. 2Seal the pressure cooker and cook the mixture until it reaches a soft, semi-liquid consistency. This should take about 15 minutes under pressure.
  3. 3Once cooked, release the pressure and open the cooker. Add salt to taste and stir well. Serve hot, optionally accompanied by pickle.
