Kachati Sambar
In Malabar part of Kerala, kachati is a type of clay pot. This sambar is a traditional dish cooked using a variety of vegetables and spices, simmered to perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 unit White onions
- 2 units Tomatoes
- 1 unit Potato
- 2 units Green chillies
- 0.25 cup Tamarind pulp
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 units Dry red chillies
- 2 units Raw banana
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- 1 cup Toor Dal
- 2 sprigs Curry leaves

Instructions
- 1In a pressure cooker, cook the toor dal until it is soft and well-cooked. Once done, mash it thoroughly.
- 2Slice all the vegetables and cook them with a small amount of water, adding salt and turmeric. Include the sliced green chillies.
- 3Transfer the cooked vegetables and mashed toor dal into the kachati. Add tamarind juice and mix well.
- 4Once the mixture boils, add sambar powder mixed with a little water. Allow it to boil for a few seconds.
- 5In coconut oil, season mustard seeds, dry red chillies, and curry leaves. Add this seasoning to the sambar.
