Veg Dalia Khichdi
This is a very healthy and tasty dish suitable for babies above 8 months and elders. Easy to make, this fiber-packed meal can be prepared in a pressure cooker.
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup Broken Wheat (Also known as dalia or bulgar wheat)
- 0.5 cup Masoor Dal (Also known as red lentils)
- 0.33 unit/count Cauliflower
- 1 unit/count Potato
- 1 unit/count Carrot (Also known as gaajar)
- 0.5 cup Green Peas
- 0.5 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
- 0.5 teaspoon Cumin Powder (Also known as jeera powder)
- 1 pinch Hing (Also known as asafetida)
- 0.5 teaspoon Garam Masala
- 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric (Also known as haldi)
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 unit/count Tomatoes
- 1 unit/count Onions
- 2 cups Water (For cooking)
- 2 tablespoons Ghee or Oil (For frying)
Instructions
- 1Dice all vegetables into medium-sized pieces. Thinly slice the onion and tomato. Soak the broken wheat and masoor dal in water.
- 2In a pressure cooker, heat ghee or oil over medium flame. Add a pinch of hing and the sliced onions. Sauté until the onions are translucent, then add the sliced tomatoes and salt. Cook until the tomatoes soften slightly.
- 3Incorporate all the dry spice powders into the mixture and stir well to combine.
- 4Add all the diced vegetables, soaked broken wheat, and masoor dal to the spice mixture. Stir to combine thoroughly.
- 5Pour in the water and stir. Seal the pressure cooker with its lid and cook on medium heat for 2-3 whistles.
- 6Allow the pressure to release naturally. Open the cooker and check if the khichdi is fully cooked. Serve hot with pickle or raita.
