Step 1
Add pepper and cumin seeds into mixer grinder. Grind the seeds well into a fine powder.
This powder acts as the rasam powder for this recipe. No additional powder is required.
Step 2
Mash garlic cloves and keep it aside. This will enhance it's flavor.
Step 3
Heat oil in a pan. Add 1/8 tsp of mustard seeds, 1/8 tsp of fennel seeds, 2 dry red chilles, 1/8 tsp of asafoetida and 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder. Add curry leaves to the mixture. Mix all the ingredients. Now add rasam powder (ground mix of pepper and cumin seeds) followed by mashed garlic.
Step 4
Add chopped tomatoes into the mixture. Once the tomatoes turn mushy add tamarind paste. Then add the required amount of water and adjust the consistency. Add salt as per taste. Bring the rasam to a good boil.
Switch off the flame and garnish pepper rasam with some coriander leaves.
