Ingredients

  • 1 pound All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 4 large Eggs
  • 1 pound Chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
  • 1/2 pound Honey
  • 1/2 pound Granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup Cold water (Quantity estimated (not specified in original recipe))
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dry ginger (Quantity estimated (not specified in original recipe))

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, oil, and eggs. Knead the dough very well until it comes together. The dough should be smooth and elastic.
  2. 2Roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut the dough into strips approximately 3 inches long. Place the strips on ungreased baking sheets. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden.
  3. 3In a saucepan, combine the chopped nuts, honey, and sugar. Mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it turns brown and caramelizes.
  4. 4Remove the glaze from the heat. Quickly wet the baked dough strips with cold water. Spread the glaze over the strips on a board. When cool, pat the strips with your hands to make them thin. Sprinkle with dry ginger.
