Butterscotch Candy
A simple butterscotch candy recipe. Cook butter and water until the mixture reaches the hard-crack stage. Adding vanilla bean enhances the flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Boiling water
- 0.5 cup Butter
- 0.25 piece Vanilla bean (Optional)
Instructions
- 1In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the boiling water and butter. Add the vanilla bean piece, if using.
- 2Boil the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches the hard-crack stage (300-310°F or 149-154°C). To test, drop a small amount into a bowl of cold water. It should form hard, brittle threads.
- 3Pour the hot candy mixture into a well-buttered pan. Let it cool slightly.
- 4While still slightly warm, mark the candy into squares with a sharp-pointed knife. Let cool completely before breaking into pieces.
