Masala Oatmeal

Spicy oatmeal with Indian spices

Ingredients

  • 1 cups Steel cut oats
  • 1 medium Onions (Medium size)
  • 1 medium Tomatoes (Medium size)
  • 2 units Green chillies
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 cups Plain yogurt
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 tbsp Oil (For sautéing)

Instructions

  1. 1Heat oil in a vessel over medium heat.
  2. 2Sauté the chopped onions and green chillies in the heated oil until the onions are translucent.
  3. 3Add turmeric, red chilli powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder to the onions and cook for one minute, stirring constantly.
  4. 4Add the chopped tomatoes to the vessel and cook until they become mushy.
  5. 5Add 2 cups of water to the vessel and bring to a boil.
  6. 6Add the steel cut oats and salt to the boiling water. Cook until the oats reach the desired consistency.
  7. 7Divide the cooked oatmeal into two serving bowls. Top with plain yogurt and serve warm.
