Steamed Cabbage | Instant Pot

A simple and flavorful South Indian dish of steamed cabbage, enhanced with coconut and spices, prepared using an Instant Pot.

Ingredients

  • 1 unit Cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut, grated (Adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1.5 teaspoons Red chilli powder (Adjust to taste)
  • 1 pinch Salt (Adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Split urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon Chana dal
  • 0.5 teaspoon Hing
  • 5 units Curry leaves
  • 1 unit Onions
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 3 units Green chillies (Slit)

Instructions

  1. 1Cut the cabbage into small pieces. A food processor can be used for convenience.
  2. 2Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode. Add coconut oil and heat. Once hot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Sauté until the chana dal changes color. Add hing, green chillies, and curry leaves, and continue to sauté until the green chillies are cooked.
  3. 3Add the chopped onion to the pot and sauté until the onions become transparent, about 2 minutes. Add the ginger and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  4. 4Add the chopped cabbage to the pot. Sprinkle with turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Mix well and sauté for a few minutes to combine the flavors.
  5. 5Set the Instant Pot to steam mode and ensure the vent is set to venting. Cook for 17 minutes. Once done, garnish with grated coconut and serve.
