Vaazhappoo Thoran/Banana Flower Stir Fry

This is a healthy side dish to enjoy with rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 unit Banana blossom (banana flower) (Finely chop the banana flower and clean well.)
  • 3 units Small onions (Finely sliced)
  • 2 units Green chillies (Finely chopped)
  • 2 units Garlic flakes
  • 1 handful Curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 3 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 2 units Dry red chillies
  • 0.5 cup Coconut (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garam masala

Instructions

  1. 1In a pan over medium heat, add coconut oil. Once hot, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, small onions, green chillies, garlic, and salt. Stir well to combine.
  2. 2Add the finely chopped banana flower to the pan. Mix thoroughly, then incorporate turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and garam masala. Cook for 6-8 minutes, adjusting salt as needed.
  3. 3Add grated coconut, curry leaves, and dry red chillies to the pan. Cover with a lid and cook on medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
  4. 4The banana flower stir fry is ready. Serve hot for the best taste.
