Pacha Kaaya Thoran/Raw Plantain Stir Fry

This is a simple and tasty Kerala side dish for rice which is very healthy too!

Ingredients

  • 2 units Raw Plantain (Peel off the skin and clean well, then cut into small pieces.)
  • 0.5 unit Onions (Half of a medium-sized onion, finely sliced.)
  • 2 units Green Chillies (Finely sliced.)
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 3 tablespoons Coconut Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 0.5 handful Curry Leaves
  • 2 units Dry Red Chillies
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 cup Water (For cooking the plantain.)

Instructions

  1. 1In a pressure cooker, combine the finely cut raw plantain, onion, and green chillies. Add turmeric powder, salt, and a little water. Cook for 4 whistles. If using a different pan or slow cooker, cook for 15 minutes.
  2. 2In another pan, heat coconut oil. Once hot, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and dry red chillies. Allow the mustard seeds to splutter.
  3. 3Immediately transfer the tempering to the cooked plantain mixture. Stir well to combine. The raw plantain stir fry is ready to be enjoyed with rice.
