Drumstick Leaves Side Dish/Muringha Ila Thaalipp
A healthy and simple drumstick leaves side dish, popular in Kerala cuisine, featuring drumstick leaves sautéed with spices and finished with boiled rice water for a nutritious accompaniment.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Drumstick leaves
- 0.5 medium Onions, finely chopped (Medium sized and finely chopped)
- 2 units Green chillies
- 2 tablespoons Coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 2 units Dry red chillies
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Boiled rice water (kanji vellam) (Cook the rice and take the water from it.)

Instructions
- 1Place the shredded drumstick leaves in a bowl, clean them thoroughly, and drain the excess water using a strainer.
- 2Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium flame. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Then add dry red chillies, chopped onions, green chillies, and salt. Sauté for two minutes until the onions are translucent.
- 3Add the prepared drumstick leaves to the pan and sauté well until the leaves are soft and cooked through.
- 4Pour one cup of boiled rice water into the pan, adjust the salt as needed, and allow it to boil until the mixture thickens.
- 5Once the rice water has thickened, remove the pan from heat. Serve the dish hot with rice.
