Tomato Dal
This Tomato Dal tastes best when served with hot rice and ghee. Follow the recipe correctly for the best taste.
Ingredients
- 4 large Tomatoes, finely chopped (Large tomatoes finely chopped)
- 2 medium Onions, finely chopped (Medium sized onions finely chopped)
- 3 unit/count Green chillies, finely chopped (Finely chopped)
- 2 unit/count Dried red chilli
- 7.5 unit/count Garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- 0.125 tsp Asafetida
- 1 spring Curry leaves
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 0.75 tsp Cumin seeds
- 2 tsp Salt (Add according to your taste)
- 1.25 tsp Red chilli powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1.5 tsp Cumin powder
- 3.75 cup Water (Approx value. Add the amount which is required to cook the dal)
- 4 tbsp Coriander leaves
- 0.375 tsp Turmeric
- 1 cup Moong Dal

Instructions
- 1In a pressure cooker, combine the moong dal, water, and turmeric. Cook on medium flame for 3-4 whistles. Once cooked, mash the dal and set aside.
- 2In a hot pan, heat oil and ghee. Add garlic cloves and sauté for a minute. Then add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, stirring for about 30 seconds.
- 3Add curry leaves, dried red chillies, and asafetida to the pan. Stir in the finely chopped onions and green chillies.
- 4Once the onions are translucent, add turmeric powder, salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Cook for 10 seconds.
- 5Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become mushy. Then add the cooked dal and mix well. Adjust the consistency with water as needed.
- 6Stir in the coriander leaves and serve the dal hot with rice.
