Teek Puttu

Spicy rice cakes made with puttu pudi and a flavorful masala of chicken, onions, and spices, steamed to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Puttu pudi (Add water little by little and make balls by just roughly mimicking the mixing action.)
  • 2 units Onions, finely chopped
  • 2 units Green chillies, finely chopped
  • 100 grams Chicken, boneless (Cut into very small pieces. You can also prefer minced meat or prawns.)
  • 1 handful Coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Grated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds

Instructions

  1. 1In a vessel, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and onions, cooking until the onions turn slightly golden yellow. Add the green chillies, coriander leaves, turmeric powder, chilli powder, and chicken pieces. Cook for about 5 to 8 minutes, then remove from heat and allow to cool.
  2. 2Ensure the puttu pudi is ready by adding water little by little and forming rough balls.
  3. 3Combine the prepared masala with 2 cups of grated coconut and mix thoroughly.
  4. 4In a puttu maker, layer 1 spoon of the masala mixture, followed by 2 spoons of puttu pudi, and another spoon of masala. Repeat until the puttu holder is full. Place on the stove and steam until steam appears on top of the puttu holder.
