Dal Vada

Dal Vada is a popular South Indian snack made from chana dal, onions, and spices, deep-fried to a crispy texture. It is often enjoyed with chutney or sauce.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Chana dal (Also known as split chickpeas or split Bengal gram)
  • 1 unit Onions (Finely chopped)
  • 0.5 inch Ginger (Finely chopped)
  • 3 units Green chillies (Finely chopped)
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves (Finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons Coriander leaves (Finely chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (Adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups Oil (For deep frying)

Instructions

  1. 1Soak the chana dal in water for 5 to 6 hours. After soaking, drain the water completely.
  2. 2Using a mixer grinder, coarsely grind the soaked chana dal with salt. Ensure the mixture remains coarse.
  3. 3Add finely chopped onions, green chillies, ginger, curry leaves, and coriander leaves to the ground dal. Mix thoroughly.
  4. 4Form small balls from the dal mixture, flatten them slightly, and create a hole in the center. Deep fry in hot oil until golden brown and crispy.
  5. 5Serve the dal vada hot with coriander-coconut chutney or sauce.
