Ingredients
- 6 slices White bread
- 5 medium Potato (Boiled and mashed)
- 300 grams Gram flour (Also known as chickpea flour or besan)
- 2 units Green chillies (Chopped)
- 1 tablespoon Salt (Divided)
- 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder (Divided)
- 1 teaspoon Chaat masala (For seasoning)
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric
- 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
- 1 pinch Baking soda
- 5 cups Oil (For deep frying)
- 1 teaspoon Ginger (Chopped)
- 1 as needed Water (To make batter)

Vada Pav / Potato Bhonda
A popular Indian street food snack consisting of spicy mashed potato balls coated in gram flour batter and deep-fried to a golden brown. Served with chutney or inside a pav (bread roll).
Instructions
- 1In a bowl, combine 300 grams of gram flour, 0.5 tablespoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of red chilli powder, and a pinch of baking soda. Gradually add water to form a slightly thick batter.
- 2Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and cook until browned. Add chopped green chillies and ginger, then add mashed potatoes. Season with 0.5 teaspoon of red chilli powder, 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of coriander powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes. Allow to cool and sprinkle with chaat masala.
- 3In a deep cookware, heat 4 cups of oil until hot enough for deep frying.
- 4Take two slices of white bread, spread the potato stuffing on one slice, and cover with the other slice. Dip the sandwich in the gram flour batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Carefully place it in the hot oil and deep fry until golden brown on both sides.
- 5Serve the bread pakoras hot with your choice of ketchup or dip.
