Step 1
Peel and halve garlic cloves and soak the raw tamarind in cold water for 30 minutes.
Step 2
Heat oil in a pan and fry toor dal until light brown. Then add the cloves and red chillis (stem removed) and continue frying for 1 minute.
Step 3
Transfer the contents in the pan into a blender and add the grated coconut, soaked tamarind, and salt as required. Blend the contents adding water as required until you reach chutney type consistency.
Step 4
In another small pan fry mustard seeds, curry leaves, and one red chilli for 1 minute. Mix this with the chutney and serve.
