Ingredients

  • 4 medium Apples
  • 1/4 cup Butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon Lemon juice
  • 1 cup Bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Boiling water

Instructions

  1. 1Peel, quarter, core, and slice the apples.
  2. 2Melt the butter in a small saucepan or in the microwave. Pour the melted butter and lemon juice over the bread crumbs in a bowl. Mix well.
  3. 3In a separate bowl, mix together the cinnamon, lemon zest, and sugar.
  4. 4Butter a baking dish. Put in alternate layers of apple slices and bread crumbs, sprinkling the apples with the sugar mixture. Make the last layer of crumbs. Pour the boiling water over the top.
  5. 5Cover the baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes, or until the apples are soft. Then, uncover and bake for a few more minutes, until the crumbs are golden brown.
  6. 6Serve warm with cream, soft custard, or lemon sauce.
