Tomato Sauce (Three portions)

Ingredients

  • 1 C Tomatoes, cut up
  • 1/8 t Onion salt (Originally 'slice of onion' or '1/8 t-onion salt'. Using onion salt for convenience.)
  • 1/2 C Water
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 2 T Butter
  • 1 t Sugar
  • 2 T Flour
  • 1/8 t Ground cloves
  • 1/3 t Salt

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, combine the tomatoes, water, bay leaves, sugar, cloves, and onion salt. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. 2Strain the tomato mixture, pressing out all the pulp. Discard the solids. In a separate pan, melt the butter.
  3. 3Add the flour to the melted butter and blend well. Slowly add the strained tomato mixture and salt. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
