Ingredients

  • 1 C Tomatoes
  • 1 slice Onion
  • 4 Bay leaves
  • 4 Cloves
  • 1/2 t Sugar
  • 1/2 C Water
  • 2 T Butter
  • 2 T Flour
  • 1/2 t Salt

Instructions

  1. 1In a saucepan, combine the tomatoes, onion slice, bay leaves, cloves, sugar, and water. Simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. 2Remove the bay leaves. Rub the tomato mixture through a strainer to remove the solids, leaving the juice and pulp.
  3. 3In a separate saucepan, melt the butter. Add the flour and salt, stirring constantly to create a roux.
  4. 4Add the strained tomato juice and pulp to the roux. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sauce reaches your desired consistency, about 10 minutes.
