Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 3 teaspoons Baking powder
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Butter (or vegetable shortening) (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference. Can also use vegetable shortening for similar texture.)
- 1/2 cup Milk
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- 2Cut in the butter (or shortening) using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3Add the milk slowly, stirring with a fork until the dough is soft enough to handle without sticking to your fingers.
- 4Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and pat it into a 2/3-inch thick rectangle. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter. Place the biscuits close together on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake in a preheated moderate oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 5Serve the biscuits warm, on a folded napkin if desired.
