Ingredients
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons Baking powder
- 2/3 cup Milk
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 3 tablespoons Butter (or vegetable shortening) (Originally lard. Substituted with butter for modern preference. Can also use vegetable shortening for similar texture.)
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- 2Cut in the butter (or shortening) using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3Add the milk and mix gently with a fork until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 4Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangular shape, about 1/2 inch thick. Use a 1 1/2-inch biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits. Reroll scraps to cut more biscuits.
- 5Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the biscuits side by side on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
