Stuffed Mussels Fry/Kallummakkaya Porichadh
A very spicy, tasty, and delicious mussels fry, commonly enjoyed in the Malabar region of Kerala.
Ingredients
- 1000 gms Mussels
- 2 cups White rice (Soaked overnight)
- 1 cup Rice powder
- 2 teaspoons Salt
- 0.5 cup Coconut, grated
- 2 teaspoons Fennel seeds
- 1 unit/count Onions (Finely chopped)
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 2 tablespoons Chilli powder
- 2 cups Vegetable oil
Instructions
- 1Using a knife, clean the outer shells of the mussels. Open them carefully and clean the inside, removing any dirt. Rinse thoroughly 4-5 times.
- 2Invert the cleaned mussels on the edges of a vessel to drain excess water.
- 3In a mixer grinder, combine the soaked white rice, grated coconut, chopped onion, fennel seeds, cumin seeds, and salt. Grind with a little water until smooth, then transfer to a mixing bowl.
- 4Gradually add rice powder to the bowl, mixing well to form a smooth dough. Adjust with water and salt as needed.
- 5Fill the cleaned mussels with the prepared rice dough.
- 6Steam the stuffed mussels for 25 minutes. Once done, turn off the heat and allow them to cool.
- 7Carefully remove the shells from the steamed mussels, leaving only the meat with the rice dough.
- 8In a small bowl, mix chilli powder with a little water and salt to form a fine paste.
- 9Dip the cooked mussels into the chilli paste and deep fry in vegetable oil until golden brown.
- 10Serve the fried mussels hot and enjoy with your loved ones.
