Cucumber Side Dish/Vellarikka Olan
A simple side dish best enjoyed with rice, featuring Mangalore cucumber cooked with green and dry red chillies, seasoned with mustard seeds and curry leaves.
Ingredients
- 0.5 unit Mangalore cucumber (Or you can take a small sized cucumber)
- 2 unit Green chillies
- 2 unit Dry red chillies
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 2 tablespoons Coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 0.5 handful Curry leaves
- 1 as needed Water (Enough to cover the cucumber)

Instructions
- 1Finely slice the Mangalore cucumber and rinse thoroughly. Place it in a pressure cooker, add enough water to cover, along with salt and green chillies. Cook for 5-6 whistles on medium flame.
- 2Turn off the flame and allow the pressure to release completely. Open the lid. In a separate pan over medium flame, heat coconut oil. Once hot, add mustard seeds, dry red chillies, and curry leaves. Immediately transfer this seasoning to the cooked cucumber and mix well.
- 3Serve the cucumber olan hot, paired with rice for a delightful meal.
