Mangalore Cucumber Ellisseri
A traditional Kerala dish featuring Mangalore cucumber cooked with coconut and spices, resulting in a flavorful and aromatic curry.
Ingredients
- 1 unit Cucumber
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric
- 1 tablespoon Salt
- 2 cups Coconut, shredded
- 6 units Dry red chillies
- 2 teaspoons Cumin seeds
- 3 sprigs Curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 2 tablespoons White onions, chopped
- 3 tablespoons Sunflower oil
- 0.5 cup Water

Instructions
- 1Clean the cucumber and chop it into pieces. Transfer to a pressure cooker, add half a cup of water, turmeric, and salt. Cook for 2 whistles.
- 2Allow the cooker to cool and open it. Slightly mash the cucumber. Grind the coconut, dry red chillies, and cumin seeds into a smooth paste.
- 3Transfer the ground paste to the cooker with the cucumber. Boil until it reaches a semi-thick gravy consistency. Add one sprig of curry leaves and turn off the heat.
- 4Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add dry chillies, chopped onions, and curry leaves. Fry until the onions are golden brown.
