Raw Baby Jackfruit Thoran

A traditional Indian side dish made with raw baby jackfruit, coconut, and spices, cooked to perfection in a clay pot.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 unit Jackfruit (Remove skin and chop into small pieces)
  • 2 cups Coconut, grated
  • 3 teaspoons Split urad dal
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard seeds
  • 4 units Dry red chillies
  • 3 sprigs Curry leaves
  • 5 tablespoons Coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (Adjust to taste)
  • 0.5 cup Water (For cooking jackfruit)

Instructions

  1. 1Remove the skin of the jackfruit and chop it into small pieces. Cook the jackfruit with a little water and salt in a clay cooking pot until tender.
  2. 2Drain the water from the cooked jackfruit and chop it finely using a chopper.
  3. 3In a clay cooking pot, heat coconut oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add dry red chillies, split urad dal, and curry leaves. Sauté until the urad dal turns golden brown.
  4. 4Add the chopped jackfruit and grated coconut to the seasoning. Mix well and cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
