Dal Spinach
Dal spinach prepared with dal is a thick gravy. A good combination with chapathis.
Ingredients
- 1 bunch Spinach
- 1 cup Toor Dal
- 3 units Dry Red Chillies
- 7 units Garlic Flakes
- 5 tablespoons Sunflower Oil
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric
- 1 teaspoon Salt (Adjust to taste)

Palak Erissery/Palak Curry/Spinach Curry
A traditional Kerala-style spinach curry made with spinach, tuvar dal, and a blend of spices, cooked to perfection and garnished with sautéed onions.
Instructions
- 1In a pressure cooker, combine the toor dal with salt and sufficient water. Cook until the dal is soft. Allow it to cool slightly, then mash the dal until smooth.
- 2Add the chopped spinach and turmeric to the mashed dal in the pressure cooker. Cook for an additional 7 minutes until the spinach is tender.
- 3In a small pan, heat the sunflower oil. Add the dry red chillies and smashed garlic flakes. Fry until the garlic is golden and fragrant. Pour this seasoning over the dal and spinach mixture. Stir well to combine. The gravy should be semi-liquid in consistency.
