Palak Dal with Coconut

Kerala style spinach dal recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Toor Dal
  • 2 cups Spinach (Chopped)
  • 2 units Tomatoes (Chopped)
  • 1 unit Onions (Thinly sliced)
  • 0.5 cup Coconut (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon Jeera
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 2 teaspoons Red Chilli Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Oil

Instructions

  1. 1In a pressure cooker, cook the toor dal with a little oil and 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder until it is fully mashed.
  2. 2Boil the chopped tomatoes and chopped spinach with the cooked dal until the tomatoes are fully mashed.
  3. 3Add turmeric and red chili powder to the mixture and cook for a few minutes.
  4. 4Grind the grated coconut and jeera into a smooth paste and add it to the dal. Reduce the flame to medium and let it boil for 2 minutes.
  5. 5In a separate pan, fry the sliced onions until golden brown and add them to the dal.
  6. 6The dal is now ready to be served hot with rice.
