Palak Dal with Coconut
Kerala style spinach dal recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup Toor Dal
- 2 cups Spinach (Chopped)
- 2 units Tomatoes (Chopped)
- 1 unit Onions (Thinly sliced)
- 0.5 cup Coconut (grated)
- 1 teaspoon Jeera
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric
- 2 teaspoons Red Chilli Powder
- 2 tablespoons Oil

Instructions
- 1In a pressure cooker, cook the toor dal with a little oil and 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder until it is fully mashed.
- 2Boil the chopped tomatoes and chopped spinach with the cooked dal until the tomatoes are fully mashed.
- 3Add turmeric and red chili powder to the mixture and cook for a few minutes.
- 4Grind the grated coconut and jeera into a smooth paste and add it to the dal. Reduce the flame to medium and let it boil for 2 minutes.
- 5In a separate pan, fry the sliced onions until golden brown and add them to the dal.
- 6The dal is now ready to be served hot with rice.
