Broken Wheat Upma
A traditional Indian breakfast dish made with broken wheat, vegetables, and spices, cooked to a fluffy texture.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Broken Wheat (Also known as dalia or bulgar wheat)
- 1 unit Carrot (Chopped)
- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 1 tbsp Salt
- 1 handful Coconut, grated
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 unit White Onions (Finely chopped)
- 2 unit Green Chillies (Chopped)
- 6 unit Curry Leaves
- 1 tbsp Sunflower Oil
- 2 cups Water (For cooking broken wheat)

Instructions
- 1In a dry pan, lightly roast the broken wheat for a few seconds until aromatic.
- 2In a pressure cooker, combine the roasted broken wheat with water, ghee, and salt. Cook for one whistle.
- 3In a non-stick pan, heat sunflower oil. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Then add chopped onions, green chillies, curry leaves, and chopped carrot. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
- 4Add the cooked broken wheat to the pan with the sautéed vegetables. Stir well to combine. Finally, add the grated coconut and mix thoroughly.
