Vermicelli Upuma/Sevai Upuma
A traditional Indian breakfast dish made with roasted vermicelli, sautéed with onions, green chillies, and curry leaves, then cooked with water and finished with shredded coconut.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Vermicelli (Roasted)
- 1 unit Onions
- 1 sprig Curry leaves
- 1 unit Green chillies
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- 2 cups Water
- 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 3 tablespoons Coconut, shredded (Heap tbsp)
- 1 tablespoon Channa dal (Optional)
- 1 tablespoon Cashew nuts (Optional)
- 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated (Optional)

Instructions
- 1Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and allow them to crackle. Add onions, green chillies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the onions become translucent.
- 2Add water and salt to the pan and bring to a boil. Stir in the roasted vermicelli and cook until the vermicelli is tender and the water has evaporated.
- 3Add shredded coconut to the pan and sauté for 2 minutes. Optionally, add channa dal, cashew nuts, and grated ginger for additional flavor.
- 4Remove from heat and serve the vermicelli upuma hot. It can be enjoyed as a breakfast or snack.
