Ingredients
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
- 1 tablespoon Butter
- 3/4 cup Buttermilk (or sour milk) (Originally sour milk. Substituted with buttermilk for modern preference. Alternatively, use regular milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar per cup.)
Instructions
- 1In a large bowl, mix and sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda.
- 2Cut the butter into the flour mixture using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 3Stir in the buttermilk with a fork until just combined. The dough should be soft but not sticky.
- 4On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out biscuits using a round cutter or a knife.
- 5Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
