Ingredients

Instructions
- 1Peel and grate the potatoes and onion.
- 2Soak the bread and crackers in water. Press out the excess water and add them to the grated potatoes and onion. Season with salt to taste.
- 3Add the butter (or vegetable shortening) and beaten egg to the potato mixture. Have plenty of hot fat in a pan. Put the potato mixture into the pan and pour one cup of cold water over it. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 1 hour, or until golden brown and cooked through.
