Modern Milk Toast

Modern Milk Toast

A comforting and simple dish of toasted bread soaked in warm milk, perfect for a light breakfast or snack. This version omits the cold water step from the original Milk Toast I recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Milk (Whole milk recommended for richness)
  • 2 slices Bread (White bread, toast, or stale bread works well)
  • 1 tablespoon Butter (Optional, for added flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar (Optional, to taste)
  • 1 pinch Salt (Optional, to taste)

Instructions

  1. 1Toast the bread slices until golden brown and crispy. You can use a toaster or toast them in a pan with a little butter.
  2. 2In a saucepan, gently heat the milk over medium heat. Do not boil. Add butter (if using), sugar, and salt to taste. Stir until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
  3. 3Place the toasted bread in a bowl and pour the warm milk over it. Let the bread soak for a minute or two until softened to your liking.
  4. 4Serve immediately and enjoy!
