Cherry Cobbler

Cherry Cobbler

This classic Cherry Cobbler recipe from 1900 offers a comforting taste of history with a sweet and slightly tart flavor. The combination of juicy cherries, a simple dough, and a moderate oven creates a satisfying dessert. Serve warm with a dollop of cream for an indulgent treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Cherries, stemmed and pitted
  • 2/3 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 1/8 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 6 tablespoons Milk

Instructions

  1. 1In a bowl, combine the cherries, sugar, flour, and salt. Let the mixture stand for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Then, add the water and stir to combine.
  2. 2In a separate bowl, mix and sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the butter using a knife until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the milk and mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. 3Pour the cherry mixture into a deep glass or china baking dish. Shape the dough with your hands to fit over the cherries. Make three slits in the dough to allow steam to escape. Place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  4. 4Serve the cobbler warm, directly from the baking dish. Plain cream or whipped cream can be served alongside.
