Ribbon Pakoda

A delightful Indian snack perfect for tea time, Ribbon Pakoda is made with rice flour and besan, seasoned with spices, and deep-fried to crispy perfection.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Rice flour
  • 1 cup Besan (Gram flour) (It is chana dal powder)
  • 0.25 medium Onion (1/4 of 1 medium size onion)
  • 1 pinch Sesame seeds (Black sesame seeds)
  • 1 pinch Cumin seeds
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ghee
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1 pinch Split urad dal (Fried & powdered)
  • 2 cups Water (Approx.)
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0 as needed Oil for deep frying (For deep frying)

Instructions

  1. 1In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, besan, salt, cumin seeds, black sesame seeds, fried and powdered urad dal, and red chili powder. Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution of the spices.
  2. 2Add the onion paste, ghee, and water to the dry ingredients. Mix well and knead into a smooth dough, similar to chapati dough consistency.
  3. 3Place a kadai on the stove and pour in enough oil for deep frying. Heat the oil until it is very hot, then reduce the flame to medium.
  4. 4Fill the dough into a ribbon pakoda maker. Squeeze the dough into the hot oil, forming ribbon shapes. Fry until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. 5Serve the ribbon pakoda hot with tea. Enjoy the crispy snack, noting that it tastes best with homemade rice flour.
