Instructions
- 1Preheat the grill or pan to high heat. Add a teaspoon of oil to the pan.
- 2In a large bowl, mash the bread and milk together with a fork until it forms a chunky paste. Add the salt, pepper, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce, and mix well.
- 3Add the ground beef and thinly sliced scallions to the bowl. Break the meat up with your hands and mix everything together until evenly combined.
- 4Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form compact balls. Flatten the balls into 3/4-inch patties about 4-1/2 inches across. Form a slight depression in the center of each patty to prevent puffing.
- 5Oil the grilling grates. Place the patties on the grill at the warmest part. Grill, covered, until browned on the first side, 2 to 4 minutes depending on desired doneness.
- 6While the patties are grilling, place the hamburger buns on the cooler side of the grill to toast. Slice the onions and tomatoes into thin disks and add the onions to the grill.
- 7Flip the burgers and continue cooking until desired doneness. One minute before removing, place a cheese slice on each patty and cover to melt the cheese.
- 8Spread mayonnaise on the base of the toasted bun. Place a lettuce leaf, then a tomato slice, followed by the cheese-covered patty. Top with grilled onions. Spread mayonnaise and mustard sauce on the top bun and place it on the patty. Secure with a bamboo skewer.
- 9Serve the burger with a side of chips and enjoy.
