Simple Moong Dal - Instant Pot (One Pot) Recipe

A simple and flavorful moong dal recipe made using an Instant Pot, perfect for a quick and nutritious meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 1 tbsp Ghee (You can also substitute this with oil)
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tbsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 pinch Salt (As needed)
  • 1 bunch Coriander leaves
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 4 units Garlic cloves (Thinly sliced)
  • 1 unit Onions
  • 2 units Tomatoes
  • 1 bunch Curry leaves
  • 0.5 unit Lemon
  • 2 cups Water (Adjust to desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. 1Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode. Once hot, add the ghee and allow it to melt.
  2. 2Add cumin seeds and hing to the hot ghee. Sauté for about 30 seconds until aromatic, then add curry leaves and sauté for another 30 seconds.
  3. 3Add the sliced garlic and chopped onions to the pot. Sauté for a few minutes until the onions are translucent.
  4. 4Incorporate the chopped tomatoes, turmeric, and red chilli powder. Sauté for a few more minutes until the tomatoes soften.
  5. 5Add the washed moong dal and a pinch of salt. Pour in water to achieve the desired consistency.
  6. 6Switch off the sauté mode and set the Instant Pot to manual mode. Cook on high pressure for 4 minutes.
  7. 7Allow the pressure to release naturally. Stir in the juice of half a lemon before serving.
