Frozen Yam - Quick Steam and Fry

A quick and easy recipe using an Instant Pot to steam frozen yam, followed by a flavorful fry with spices, perfect for a busy day.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Yam, frozen and cubed (I used 1 pack frozen cubed yam)
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 2 units Green chillies (Adjust to required spice level)
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard seeds
  • 2 units Dry red chillies (Adjust to required spice level)
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1.5 teaspoons Red chilli powder (Adjust to required spice level)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1 cup Water (For steaming in the Instant Pot)

Instructions

  1. 1Clean the frozen cubed yam and place it in a steamer basket. Fill the Instant Pot with one cup of water, insert the steamer basket, and steam for 9 minutes. Once done, remove the basket immediately.
  2. 2Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter. Then, add the green chillies, dry red chillies, turmeric, red chilli powder, salt, and curry leaves. Sauté until the chillies and curry leaves are cooked.
  3. 3Add the steamed yam to the pan with the spices. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until the yam is well coated with the spices. Serve immediately.
