Ood Masa Looqa (Steamed Rice Cake/Rice Balls)
Traditional Nawayathi rice and coconut cakes wrapped in turmeric leaves and steamed.
Ingredients
- 1000 grams Boiled rice (Soaked overnight)
- 100 grams Dosa rice (Soaked overnight along with the boiled rice)
- 1 medium Coconut, grated (1 medium size coconut)
- 1 tablespoon Salt (Or as per your need)
- 200 milliliters Water (For grinding the rice mixture)

Instructions
- 1Soak the boiled rice and dosa rice overnight in ample water to ensure they are fully submerged.
- 2In a large vessel, combine the soaked rice, grated coconut, and salt. Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution of ingredients.
- 3Using a grinder, process the rice mixture with approximately 200ml of water until a thick batter is formed. The batter should be thick enough to shape into rice balls.
- 4Shape the batter into rice balls and wrap each ball with fresh turmeric leaves. Alternatively, use banana leaves or omit this step if leaves are unavailable.
- 5Place the wrapped rice balls in a steamer or idly maker and steam until fully cooked. The rice cakes should be firm and cooked through.
- 6Once cooked, remove the rice cakes from the steamer and serve hot. These cakes pair excellently with Maasa looqa (chicken or mutton gravy).
