Lemonade Powders
A Victorian-era instant lemonade powder kit, packaged in two separate papers that fizz when combined with water. Similar to ginger-beer powders but flavored with lemon instead of ginger.
Ingredients
- 0.5 drachm (approximately 1.75 grams or 1/2 teaspoon) Bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) (For the blue paper packet)
- 0.25 ounce (approximately 7 grams or 1.5 teaspoons) Sugar, granulated (For the blue paper packet)
- 25 grains (approximately 1.6 grams or 1/2 teaspoon) Tartaric acid, powdered (For the white paper packet)
- 0.25 teaspoon Lemon essence or fresh lemon juice (To be added to the water when mixing)
- 1 cup (8 ounces) Water, cold (For mixing the powders)

Instructions
- 1Mix together the bicarbonate of soda and sugar thoroughly. Package this mixture in blue paper or a small envelope labeled 'Blue Packet'.
- 2Package the tartaric acid powder separately in white paper or a small envelope labeled 'White Packet'.
- 3When ready to make lemonade, add the lemon essence or fresh lemon juice to the cold water in a glass or pitcher and stir to combine.
- 4Empty the contents of the blue packet (bicarbonate of soda and sugar) into the lemon water and stir until dissolved.
- 5Empty the contents of the white packet (tartaric acid) into the mixture. It will immediately fizz and effervesce. Stir briefly and drink while still fizzing for the best effect.
