This refreshing historical cocktail from 1917 balances the slightly sweet, botanical profile of Old Tom Gin with tart fresh lime juice and rich pomegranate grenadine. Ingredients
- 1/2 ounce Lime juice (Freshly squeezed (approx. juice of 1/2 lime).)
- 1 ounce Grenadine (Originally '1 pony'. Converted to modern measurement (1 pony = 1 fl oz).)
- 1 1/2 ounces Old Tom Gin (Originally '1 jigger'. Converted to modern measurement (1 jigger = 1.5 fl oz). Old Tom Gin is sweeter than London Dry.)
- 1 cup Ice cubes (Originally 'Lump Ice'. Quantity estimated for a standard mug or highball glass.)
- 4 ounces Seltzer water (Or club soda. Quantity estimated to fill the glass.)
- 1 strip Lime peel (For garnish.)
- 1 sprig Fresh mint (For garnish.)
Instructions
- 1Squeeze the juice of half a lime into a mug or highball glass. Add the grenadine and Old Tom Gin.
- 2Add the ice cubes to the glass, then fill to the top with seltzer water. Stir well to combine and chill the drink.
- 3Decorate with a strip of lime skin and a sprig of fresh mint. Serve immediately with straws.
