Molasses Cake

A simple molasses cake recipe from the Royal Baker Pastry Cook.

Ingredients

  • 1 cupful Butter
  • 1 cupful Brown sugar
  • 1/2 cupful Molasses
  • 1 cupful Milk
  • 1 1/2 pints All-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoonfuls Baking powder
  • 1 Egg

Instructions

  1. 1In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth. Add the milk, egg, and molasses, mixing until combined.
  2. 2In a separate bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder.
  3. 3Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined to form a consistent batter.
  4. 4Pour the batter into a greased and floured cake tin. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
