Corned Beef and Turnips

Corned Beef and Turnips

A classic dish of corned beef and turnips, cooked until tender and served with the cooking liquid.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Corned Beef
  • 12 Turnips
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 8 cups Water

Instructions

  1. 1Place the corned beef in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring slowly to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat to a simmer.
  2. 2After the beef has simmered for about 1 hour (or 15 minutes per pound), add the peeled and quartered turnips to the pot.
  3. 3When the beef and turnips are tender, remove them from the pot. Arrange the unmashed turnips around the sliced corned beef. Serve the meat with drawn butter (melted butter), using the pot liquor (cooking liquid) as a base. Save any remaining pot liquor for soup.
