Apple Meringue
A classic dessert featuring spiced applesauce, baked and topped with meringue.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Applesauce
- 2 large Eggs
- 3 large Egg whites
- 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
Instructions
- 1Spice and sweeten the applesauce to your taste. This could involve adding cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar or honey. Set aside.
- 2Beat 2 or 3 eggs into the spiced and sweetened applesauce. Mix well to combine.
- 3Pour the applesauce and egg mixture into a pudding dish. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes, or until the top is set and lightly crusted.
- 4In a clean, dry bowl, whip the whites of 3 eggs until soft peaks form. Gradually add a little sugar while continuing to whip until stiff, glossy peaks form.
- 5Carefully spread the meringue over the baked applesauce mixture. Return to the oven and bake for a few minutes, just until the meringue is lightly tinged with color. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
