Icing
This simple icing recipe from 1900 creates a smooth and sweet topping for cakes and pastries. The combination of egg white, water, and powdered sugar results in a classic, glossy finish. Vanilla extract adds a delicate flavor, making it a versatile choice for various desserts.
Ingredients
- 1 each Egg white
- 2 tablespoons Cold water
- 3/4 cup Powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Instructions
- 1Beat the egg white in a clean bowl until very stiff. This will take approximately 5 minutes.
- 2Gradually add the cold water and powdered sugar to the stiffly beaten egg white, beating continuously. This should take about 5 minutes.
- 3Add the vanilla extract and beat thoroughly for about 5 minutes, until the icing will stand alone.
- 4Spread the icing on the cake. If the icing is not thick enough, add more powdered sugar, a tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is achieved.
